Discussion of Trail Restoration/Renovation

In the past few years some of the trails have been seriously eroded. We asked the Maine Conservation Corps for their recommendations to repair and restore the trails. Their suggestions are far more ambitious than we would want or be able to afford, but they provide a basis for a broad discussion of how we want to steward our trails.

The Lobster Cove Trail reconstruction project, funded by the Monhegan Associates and a grant from the Recreational Trails Program, will be completed this September by a crew from the Maine Conservation Corps and volunteers on the island.

The trail chairman, Fred Grey, makes his recommendations here.

Samples of the work done by the MCC are here.
